Gennady Golovkin in the third fight with Canelo Alvarez: “There are some questions … They remain unanswered”

Canelo Alvarez earlier this month showed what a great boxer he is. Not only did he become the undisputed super-middleweight world champion, he did so by defeating the undefeated and brilliant Caleb Plant. Now, boxing’s biggest star is setting his sights on the cruiser class – impressive for the man who fought Floyd Mayweather in 2013 at just over 150 pounds. There’s no doubt about it – Canelo is the Walk of Fame. In fact, there’s basically only one thing about Canelo’s career that amazes a lot of people these days – and it’s not his loss to Mayweather or Canelo’s very close victory over Erislandy Lara. Those were his two battles with Genady “GGG” Golovkin.

The first pitch between the two men occurred in 2017. It ended in a wildly controversial draw, as most felt Golovkin had done enough to win. The rematch next year did not change people’s perceptions much. Although Canelo performed much better the second time he met Golovkin, which ended in a decisive victory, there were still many who felt that Canelo hadn’t done enough to prove himself as the better of the two fighters. . Golovkin, or of course, remembers it all very well, although he doesn’t seem preoccupied with everything.

Talk to Sports sky before his December fight with Ryoto Murata – Golovkin’s first fight in more than a year – the boxer was referring to a much-talked about third showdown between him and his arch-rival. . “This fight is possible,” the 39-year-old middleweight boxer said of the Canelo-GGG third bout. “In theory, nothing has changed.” Except, perhaps, everything has changed. For example, Canelo will now fight well in upper middleweight, and Golovkin isn’t really active as he gets closer and closer to his forties. However, Golovkin felt there was a sense of unfinished business within reach.

“There are a number of questions that have been raised,” he said. “They’re still open, they’re still unanswered.” However, Golovkin makes it clear that the third war – if it even happens – is far from over. “We discussed it,” Golovkin said, “but haven’t moved on to this war for quite some time.” In the end, Golovkin appears as a man who wants to cut his own path, as opposed to someone who is always trying to prove himself. “We fought,” he said of Canelo. “I know who he is. I don’t think about him at all.”
