Metropolitan Police accused of rape and facing trial today | UK News
A Metropolitan Police operative has been suspended after being accused of rape.
Paul Hoile, 40, was arrested in Benfleet, Essex, on 6 July in connection with an incident believed to have occurred the day before in Lilleshall near Newport, Shropshire.
Hoile faces three counts of rape and one count under section four of the Sexual Offenses Act.
He is currently in custody and will appear before Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Saturday.
Hoile is based at the Met Police’s Northwest Command Unit as a special ops officer – a volunteer officer who works around 16 hours a month.
The Met’s Professional Standards Board is aware of these fees.
The case was referred to the West Mercia Police and the Metropolitan Police by the Independent Office of Police Conduct.
Visibility patrols have been stepped up across Lilleshall and Newport but police said they were pleased there was no risk to the public.
