Meta’s Facebook, Instagram are down for hundreds of thousands of users globally
Meta Platforms-owned Facebook and Instagram were down for hundreds of thousands of users globally on Tuesday, according to outage tracking website Down detector.com.
According to the site, the disruption began around 10:00 a.m. ET, with more than 300,000 reports of the Facebook outage and about 40,000 reports for Instagram.
“We know people are having difficulty accessing our services,” Meta spokesman Andy Stone said in a post on social network X. We are currently resolving this issue.”
Meta’s status dashboard shows that the API for WhatsApp Business is also having problems. There were around 200 WhatsApp outage reports on Down detector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from multiple sources, including users.
The outage was one of the top trending topics on X, formerly Twitter, with some users reporting they were suddenly logged out of social media platforms owned by Meta.
