Mazda petrol and PHEV models have a 15,000 km usage cycle in 2023

Mazda Australia confirmed its gasoline-powered models will move to a service distance of more than 15,000 km (up from 10,000 km) with all new launches and updates from next year.

The first car to downgrade will be upgraded 2023 Mazda CX-5 the range, detailed this week, shows petrol variants G20 (2.0 litres), G25 (2.5 litres) and G35 (turbocharged 2.5 litres) will move to a 12-month period, 15,000 km.

However, the diesel variants D35 (2.2 liter twin turbocharger) still follow the existing 10,000 km schedule.

A spokesperson for Mazda Australia confirmed to CarExpert that new one CX-60 will follow, with the 3.3-liter e-Skyactiv G inline-six and e-Skyactiv PHEV 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid four-cylinder also set to adopt the new intervals. – but again, not diesel.

Following the launch of the new CX-5 and CX-60, all updated vehicles launched from 2023 The same schedule will apply to gasoline models. The only other Mazda launch confirmed for next year so far is CX-8″ three-row SUVnow also offers a 2.5-litre G25 naturally aspirated petrol engine.

The move will put Mazda’s gasoline-powered models in line with most competitors and address key criticisms of the current ownership program. Most brands; including Toyota, Hyundai, Kia and Volkswagen, quote 12-month or 15,000-km service intervals for most of their range.

Hyundai and Kia have 12-month/10,000km intervals on their turbocharged petrol models, while Toyota maintains 6-month/10,000km intervals on some of the heavier engines like HiLux, Prado and LandCruiser 300 Series.

It’s unclear if this will bring about any adjustments to service pricing, though we expect those details to be confirmed closer to each respective model launch.

However, Mazda added the following: “Another distinct advantage for customers is the assurance that after 5 years of ownership, the new 12-month/15,000km service period will be cheaper overall – with individuals saving the equivalent of two service costs in these five years – Stage five, on an average of 13,000km/year”.
