Mazda Arata concept previews second Chinese EV
Mazda unveiled a new SUV concept at this year’s Beijing auto show that previews the company’s second China-centric electrified product.
The Mazda Arata concept was revealed along with EZ-6 sedan. Both will be produced in China by joint venture Changan Mazda.
Mazda has just confirmed that the production version of the Arata concept is expected to go into mass production by the end of 2025 and will be introduced to the Chinese market.
At this stage, it is unclear whether a production version of the Arata concept will be offered outside of China.
A Mazda Australia spokesperson said: “We cannot comment on any future model plans.”
Mazda claims the Arata concept represents the company’s Kodo design philosophy.
At the front there is a large faux grille with signature LED lights connecting both headlights as well as prominent air intakes.
Around the side there are sharp body lines and creases, as well as no door handles, large wheels, small side windows and illuminated Mazda lettering on the sills.
The Arata concept’s rear end is fairly bare but features a rear spoiler with vertical LED lights, as well as subtle LED taillights and more illuminated Mazda lettering.
It is currently unclear what Mazda will call the production version of the Arata concept. Companies have registered trademark EZ-60 in China this would make sense given Mazda’s existing naming structure.
