Cupra wants his electric cars to be like the Star Trek train

Cupra says its electric vehicles (EVs), like most EVs, are too quiet, and so it’s working to make them sound more enjoyable.

Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths said: “One thing I tasked my team with that they hadn’t come up with was that we needed to come up with a software system that would create emotional sounds for the audience. tram. auto expert.

“I miss the excitement around the sound of internal combustion engines, so I think we need something that can replace them.

He noted that Cupra can rely on the Volkswagen Group’s CARIAD software division for its software stacks and all systems used in its cars.

When asked if he would like the brand’s electric cars to mimic the sound of cars powered by an internal combustion engine, Mr Griffiths said “definitely not”.

“The emotional sound of an electric car is more like Star Trek than when you watch Warp Five,” he said.

“For me, one of the best examples is probably the Porsche Taycan. When I drove the Porsche Taycan, and I was amazed with this audio experience.

“[We will not] try to copy an internal combustion engine, never, it has to be something completely different.

“I think we also need to be outside, the sound of a car outside, for legal reasons as well as to make sure people can hear these cars approaching is also very important. “

Cupra introduced its first electric car, based on MEB Bornand will follow this up with tavascan SUV coupe on the same platform plus smaller, based on MEB Entry UrbanRebel. The Born has been sold, with the latter two due here in 2025.

It plans to become an electric-only brand by 2030 and has already confirmed successors to the brand today. Leon And Formentor would suggest electricity.

Additionally, Cupra is considering entering the US market and is therefore considering topping its range with a Electric SUV that’s going to be bigger than the next one, Volkswagen Tiguan-have size terroir.

Perhaps the most “emotional” of these electric cars is the sports car that Mr recent suggestion.

“If we have to create new models on the scale that we have, those new models have to allow us to access truly global markets, like the US, or do something very, very specifically for our brand,” said Mr. Griffiths.

“And so if we were to make different cars, it would be cars that fit our brand and our brand DNA. And so we’re talking about if there are more cars or new models, I’ll bet on a sports car, for example.

“Sorry, I can’t, but maybe in the future there will be a chance to own a nice sports car from Cupra.”
