The demise of Lightyear Automotive was swift. A rendering of its first car has been shown mid-2019. Equal summer 2022the company said production was about to begin, which it did that same December. Then in early February 2023, just a few weeks after the announcement of the second cheaper model, company filed for bankruptcy. Now just over two months after that filing, all of the company’s merchandise is ready to be picked up in an upcoming auction.

If solar isn’t for you and you want to do something crazy, like drop a little block in one of these, there’s also a rolling chassis to grab. If you don’t want any of the junk the chassis comes with, you can even bid on the entire bodywork.
Honestly, you can build a whole car with stuff that will be auctioned off. It’s like everyone just dropped everything they were doing and walked out. There are spare parts box according to the car, complete battery pack, Recaro seats, interior, wiring, electronic components. Everything that was supposed to go in these cars was boxed up lying on the floor of the Lightyears manufacturing facility waiting for a new owner.
If you’re not interested in anything in the car, you can still bid. Need office supplies? They also left it behind. There are computer screens, WiFi hotspots, lighting, tables and chairs. And then there’s the funny random stuff that also highlights this company’s financial situation. There are four soundproof phone booths to pick up, one the entire office sitting area which… why aren’t the pieces auctioned separately? There’s even toilet paper and cleaning supplies that will be delivered to the property if you’re running low.
