Matt Nagy denies news he will be fired after Thanksgiving: ‘That’s incorrect’
While Bears fans may want coach Matt Nagy to leave Chicago shortly after Thanksgiving, he may end up staying.
During media availability on Tuesday morning, reporters opened the interrogation by confronting Nagy with a recent report from Patch.com, saying that president George McCaskey plans to bid farewell to Nagy after their Thanksgiving match with the Lions.
“That’s not correct,” Nagy replied to the opening question. “I have great communication with ownership, with George and Ted and Ryan, but I haven’t had any discussions.”

Nagy avoided further questions about his coaching status for the rest of the season and explained that his current plan is to prepare the team against the Lions.
“My focus right now is on these players and on Detroit,” Nagy said. “That’s it. It’s my job as a head coach and a leader.”

After leading the Bears to a 12-4 record to the championship in his first season as head coach, Nagy was unable to keep the Bears in the playoff race. Nagy’s success is going downhill since they went 8-8 in the past two seasons, and it’s only getting worse. The Bears (3-7) suffered a 16-13 defeat to the Ravens last week and are bottom of the NFC North table with seven games remaining in the regular season.
In more than a century of ownership, the Chicago franchise has never fired a head coach mid-season. However, if the Bears finish their Thanksgiving match against the invincible Lions, Nagy is likely to have more serious conversations with ownership about her future.
