Supercross Australia 2022 Championship – Round 3 Newcastle
The 2022 Australian Supercross Championship takes place in Newcastle in Round 3, with Matt Moss of BBR 102 Motorsports and Max Anstie of Team Honda HRC Australia about to win, scoring three strong results in the three main event formats for each. their respective victories.
The Triple Crown produced great races all night long, while the Newcastle technical track rose to the top and occupied the majority of the riders.
In a strong comeback, nine-time Australian Supercross Champion Matt Moss took P1 after taking first and third place wins of the main event, while Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Dylan Wills took good results to take second place overall and win the first SX1 podium of his career.
Dylan’s Will – P2
“I am really pleased with the result and want to enjoy it with Team Husqvarna! It started off pretty hard today as I went a little too long in the rhythm section and banged my head on the ‘bars on the uphill of the trio, so having five stitches on my chin wasn’t an ideal way to start. early in the day… I have jagged teeth and my face is a bit puffy, but I decided to go out and ride smart in the night show. After a third of my heat, I won 3-3-4 in the final to finish second on the night. I am so enthralled! The team and I have worked for a year on this and after a tough outdoor run in MX2, I turned the tide for my home race here in transcendental content.”
With Justin Brayton and Aaron Tanti entering the night with equal points, Brayton used a calculated approach to the show, while some mistakes from Tanti resulted in a major crash in the main event. second and DNF for the third event, significantly hampering his 2022 title hopes.
Brayton finished the third night final, ahead of Josh Hill, Kyle Webster and Dylan Wood. Robbie Marshall, Cory Watts, Blake Cobbin and Joel Cigliano made the top 10.
The hopeful Hayden Mellross of the GASGAS SX1 class had an unlucky night. After making it through to the fourth qualifying round and finishing P2 promisingly with his heat, he fell heavily in the first of three finals. Mellross’ DNS results saw him slide to eighth place overall in the SX1 championship standings. He was transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.
Brayton leads Matt Moss by eight points into Round 4, while Dylan will win another seven.
SX2
SX2 once again went to British tennis player Max Anstie, who scored 1-1-3 for the third time in a row, followed by teammate Wilson Todd in second and New’s local Rhys Budd South Wales is in third place.
Col Thompson missed out on third despite taking the title three points for Budd, while Kaleb Barham came in fifth.
Ferguson made it through to Saturday’s quick qualifiers earlier in the day, but it looks to be a promising evening after he overcame the group to claim second place in his heat race. That night saw the young Queenlander post a 5-10-6 result for sixth place overall.
Noah Ferguson – P6
“It was a night of ups and downs. The Triple Crown is really good and it keeps the race tight… Six laps doesn’t give you much time to get organized, but I really enjoyed it. Besides that, I’m definitely not satisfied with the end result. I know where I should be and I believe I should be on that podium, but unfortunately the results don’t show that tonight. I’m really determined to finish the season strong next weekend and look forward to lining up again!”
Luke Davis finished seventh, finishing the night before Crawford, who had the second fastest practice time, then finished his SX2 match with a solid P3 result. However, things took a turn for the worse in the first final of three Triple Crown races when he was hit hard in the opening lap. A damaged bike meant he couldn’t continue and was forced to enter the DNF race.
The team worked hard to repair the bike and ensure Crawford could line up for the second encounter and despite injuring his arm in the first collision, he worked hard to get home. finish in sixth place. In the final final of the evening, Crawford had a great start and led for much of the race, before a couple of late passes sent him down to a tough and somewhat salvaged third place. final round 8.
Nathan Crawford – P8
“Today was a really tough day, but I feel pretty good in training and in qualifying. I finished third in my heat race, which is fine in theory, and the three finals were all different, very exciting races. I missed the first race after the second corner collision and then my bike was uncontrollable. The team rushed to get the bike ready for the second final and I was able to finish in sixth place. In the last race, I took the lead until two more laps left when my arms got really tired and I fell behind in third place. My arm isn’t seriously injured – it’s just a little sore – so we should be ready to go next weekend in Wagga Wagga.”
Max Anstie leads the SX2 standings by 75 points, with Col Thompson 54 points and Rhys Budd drawing with Noah Ferguson on 51 points.
SX3
The SX3 division saw a heated battle between Jack Mather and Cole Davies, who split the race victory with the former taking the overall win. Davies finished second with a score of 1-2, while Jake Cannon took last place on the podium.
