The file sharing company has announced that it will offer some of the fastest speeds in the industry, but who needs this?
“MASV“also known as “Massive”, is a distinctive file-sharing company. The product does not necessarily compete with WeTransfer or Frame. The company’s goal is to facilitate the sharing of large files. Basically, it replaces the hard-drive mailing around the world.
For example, sometimes my footage needs to be sent to a remote editor or production company. I use MASV because it’s fast as hell and pretty reliable. I will be charged about $50 for every 200 GB I upload, which will then be passed on to the customer. Trust me, this is usually a lot cheaper and easier than sending a drive through priority shipping.
If you try uploading 200GB to Google Drive, the speed will drop so drastically that you might not even mind. That’s a problem many advertisers will face. The point is that no matter how fast your internet connection is, the file sharing service needs to be fast.
Who is this for?
In the UK you can get a 10 Gbps connection for £1,499 one month. That’s pretty steep! Although, if you are running a post-production facility, a studio or a broadcast station, this is well worth the money.
However, in the US, prices seem to be fluctuating around $200 one month. That is, of course, if you are lucky enough to be placed in the correct areas. It means small businesses can start using these speeds. In a business landscape altered by the pandemic, this can be an easy spend for some companies.
Second, this can be a really useful method for collecting vehicles from many shooters around the world. Instead of giving collaborators free access to your Frame project, you can share the upload portal from MASV with them. Once they upload their file, it can integrate with your Frame account without re-uploading.
