BMW R nineT just got its first major update since it first launched, but many have been wondering if those changes are necessary. After all, the upcoming model has the potential to be attractive — and it has a lot of potential for custom bikes in the right people.

this resolute BMW R nineT cafe racer comes from two of the most skillful hands in the industry. It is the work of CNCPT Moto, an ongoing collaboration between Arjan van den Boom, founder of ironwood motorbikeand Timothy Somers of Powerbrick. Each of them has a strong portfolio of their own — but their individual styles come together perfectly.

CNCPT’s debut build is a foolproof R nineT with an ultra-futuristic feel. More like a concept bike than a regular custom bike, it was created to showcase the team’s capabilities. Now Arjan and Tim have fought back with a little more gentleness cafe racer.

“After debuting us ‘Cloud 9’ For the BMW R nineT, we trimmed down controversial lines to make it a comfortable street fighter,” says Arjan. “A motorcycle with a custom look, but completely usable and drivable.”

Although the men have downsized the aesthetics of their 9T concept, they still care about the specifications of the parts. The OEM front fork is re-engineered with carbon fiber caps from CeraCarbon on the outside and cartridge kit from Matris on the inside. They are now fully adjustable, as are the TFX Suspension rear shocks.

The 9T’s Brembo brakes are still used, but its lace-up rims have been replaced with something more luscious. At each end is a gorgeous Rotobox Bullet carbon fiber wheel, wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV rubber.

CNCPT wanted to retain some of the original characteristics of the 9T, so they kept its original fuel tank. However, the chunky air intake normally tucked into its right side is gone, replaced by a better-looking one from Pier City Cycles in the UK.

Next, Arjan and Tim removed the boxer’s subframe and chair support. A stout 3D-printed subframe sits at the rear, with slim French-style LED taillights at the rear. The most famous Dutch upholstery company, Silver Machine, is responsible for the beautiful leather and Alcantara seats.

At the front, a headlight cover from Powerbrick’s existing BMW parts catalog sits above the OEM fender. It has a powerful LED headlight from Koso.

Going further back, you’ll find new custom yoke and clip-ons, both machined by Tim. Leather steering wheel, Motogadget push buttons and Beringer master cylinder for hydraulic brake and clutch. A digital dash from Motogadget handles tachometer tasks.

The air- and oil-cooled boxer engine of the R nineT remains inside, but CNCPT has replaced the airbox with a pair of DNA filters. The custom stainless steel exhaust system, from the two-in-one top to the classic sports car-inspired finish. It was built by MAD Exhausts according to CNCPT’s design.

CNCPT also doesn’t mess with the wiring, limiting their work to assisting in removing the airbox and changing the lighting. The bike doesn’t currently have turn signals, mirrors or license plate holders, but that’s because it’s been busy touring around the show. CNCPT is selling it now, so they will be finalizing those parts soon.

Completing the bodywork is a generous side skirt provided by BMW parts specialist AC Schnitzer. It dramatically changes the profile of the bike—but notably, it’s actually a plug and play unit. Tim has added a bit of style, by crafting a custom ‘chest cover’ for the engine and branded glossy valve caps.

The paintwork of the R nineT is as sharp as its revised silhouette. CNCPT chose a clever black and silver design, then accentuated it by finishing the front half of the frame in silver and all the smaller details in black. Royal Jack handles the paint job, while Brother Coating does all the powder coating and anodizing work.

Dubbed the ‘Mach 9’, this 9T may not be as wild as CNCPT’s debut bike. But it is no less attractive. There’s no denying that; Arjan and Tim are a force to be reckoned with.
