LA Times Claims The World Can “Quickly Eliminate All Fossil Fuels” Is Totally Incompetent

Guest post by Larry Hamlin

The LA Times published an editorial declares that the thinning of the ozone layer is recovering and this result gives hope to the climate alarm plans being implemented to be able to overcome climate change concerns with a clear solution. “quickly eliminate all fossil fuels”.

The Times editorial noted the following:

“The gradual recovery of the ozone layer has been taken as proof that humanity can succeed with sustained collective action against a common threat to our environment. So should it also give us hope about the climate crisis? Not if we ignore its example and continue at the same slow pace of action.”

However other climate scientists have an interest about what is really happening to the Earth’s ozone layer as noted in the discussion of ozone science data below.

“The Antarctic ozone hole usually begins to open in the southern hemisphere spring (late September) and begins to grow in October, usually ending in November, but this hasn’t happened for several years. via. Data from the past three years show a different behavior this time around, the ozone hole remaining larger than usual throughout November and ending only in December.

The Antarctic ozone hole in 2022 is again relatively large, and closing takes longer than usual, such as in 2020 and 2021 (shown below). This is a different behavior from what was seen 40 years ago. No one is sure what is going on.”

Additional scientific concerns regarding the current state of the ozone problem are noted as follows:

“In one learning 2018 published year Atmosphere Chemistry and Physics, the researchers revealed that the ozone layer did not recover between 60°S and 60°N. Co-author Joanna Haigh, then from Imperial College London, said that,

“The potential for harm at lower latitudes could be worse than at the poles. Ozone depletion is less than what we saw at the poles before the Montreal Protocol was enacted, but UV radiation is stronger in these areas and more inhabited.”

Recently UN report (January 2023) shows that 99% of ozone-depleting chemicals have been removed, so why isn’t restoring the ozone layer stronger yet? This may be due to the long lifetime of ozone-depleting chemicals in the atmosphere (about 100 years). But if it is, does that match the very rapid emergence of the ozone hole in the late 1970s? In addition, climate change could alter the way air moves in the atmosphere, slowing the recovery process.

Looking at the empirical evidence, many people are looking at the recovery of the ozone layer through overly hopeful eyes.”

The Times continues to exaggerate prematurely “we have solved the earth’s ozone problems” and attempts to use this unproven claim to try and bolster a ludicrous claim that the propaganda of these Climate alarmists demand the elimination of fossil fuels because their greenhouse gas emissions are imminent. .

“The good news is that we already know the solutions and have the technology needed to transition to renewable energy. But to succeed in curbing climate change, humanity will have to overcome their powerful, entrenched fossil fuel interests and respected politicians. These industries have engaged in decades-long disinformation campaigns to delay climate action and try to hang on to their profits for as long as possible.”

“Maybe decades from now, we will celebrate the near-complete elimination of fossil fuels and watch the atmosphere recover from reckless greenhouse gas emissions.

But such hope is not enough. We have all the tools we need to combat this existential threat, and we now know that taking decisive action can pay off. We cannot wait any longer to act.”

The Times’ ozone claims are upbeat, based on measured scientific data that is both decades shorter than required to prove it claims to contain data that contains close measurement results. this is relevant. Their claim that the ozone problem has been resolved ignores scientific data showing other serious ozone problems and incidents exist at lower latitudes as well as the fact that a 99% reduction in chemicals The declared ozone-depleting agent does not seem to be in line with the slow progress demonstrated to date by scientific metrological data.

After exaggerating and underestimating the complexity of the science on the ozone problem, the timeframe for resolution, and the issues of uncertainty (while providing no scientific data, etc.), the Times then claimed claims that the same “success” in virtually eliminating fossil fuels in the future may be demanded by advocates of climate alarmism.

BP in 2022 Statistical assessment of world energy provides substantial energy and emissions data allowing a rational and intelligent assessment of the critical importance of using fossil fuel energy economically and profitably with the main focus of the report. BP’s 2022 World Energy Statistical Review reveals growing shortages and rising prices highlighting the continued importance of energy ‘security’ and ‘affordability’ along with ‘lower carbon’ when dealing with the energy impossibility triad.”

The report also notes that the annual growth in primary energy use in 2021 is the largest on record, with emerging economies accounting for most of the increase.

Global primary incremental energy demand will increase by a record 5.52% in 2021 compared to pandemic year 2020 decline while global CO2 emissions increase by 5.6%. Both energy growth and carbon emissions are driven by the recovery of global economic growth after the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022.

Of the 5.52% incremental energy growth of global energy consumption in 2021, 83.4% will be provided by increased use of fossil fuels and only 16.4% from increased use of fossil fuels. increased use of renewable energy.

Global year 2021, total primary energy use is met with 82.3% of fossil fuel use and only 6.7% of renewable energy use with large hydro and nuclear providing remaining energy.

This energy usage data clearly shows that the LA Times’ foolish claim that the world can “quickly get rid of all fossil fuels” is completely absurd. After decades of costly global regulation of unreliable renewable energy use, these energy sources will provide 6.7% of total global energy use in 2021. .

The developing countries of the world (non-OECD) account for 61.37% of the total global energy use while the developed countries (OECD) account for only 38.62% of the global energy use. .

The use of renewable energy by developing countries (led by China and India) accounts for only 5.1% of total global energy consumption in 2021 while developed countries use Renewable energy accounts for 9.2% of their total energy demand.

Globally, trillions of dollars have been mandated by governments of developed countries over the past two decades to force the use of unreliable renewable energy leading to chaos in energy security and capacity. Global payouts have occurred over the past two years with this failure concealed and unresolved by the LA Times.

The developing countries of the world account for 66.7% of total CO2 emissions in 2021 while developed countries account for only 33.3% of total CO2 emissions.

The CO2 emissions of developed countries will become less and less significant in the future as developing countries continue to increase their use of more coal, oil and natural gas than the energy data shows. and global emissions by 2022 will be evident.

The highest year for CO2 emissions for developed countries was 2005 with their total emissions now falling by more than 2.4 billion tons per year through 2021 compared to 2005 levels.

During the same period, the world’s developing countries’ CO2 emissions increased by 8.1 billion tons per year, making global CO2 emissions more than 5.7 billion tons per year through 2021. .

Developed country governments have spent trillions of dollars to achieve a forced increase in the use of unreliable renewable energy. These mandates significantly increase the energy costs of these countries and jeopardize their energy security with their reductions in CO2 emissions being globally inconsistent.

Meanwhile, developing nations have dramatically increased their use of all fossil fuels and dramatically increased their total energy use with these countries now completely dominating both the use of global energy and emissions. Their CO2 emissions skyrocketed by more than 8 billion tons per year between 2005 and 2021.

The failure of global CO2 emissions growth noted above was concealed and not addressed by the LA Times.

The LA Times conceals the global affordability and energy security failures of governments unreasonably mandating the use of unreliable renewable energy.

The LA Times conceals the failure of the government’s global emissions reduction plans that have cost trillions of dollars and resulted in more than 8 billion tons of global emissions increased by developing nations around the world. world with this result reflecting the futility of such stupid government mandated emission reduction plans.

The LA Times claims that the “solution to avert catastrophic warming” of the world is to “quickly eliminate all fossil fuels” which is nothing more than climate science and global energy use policy.
