Kodak’s Journey to the Studio: Part 3

This is the last of three videos that dive into how Kodak makes movies for your camera. In this third video, we take a look at how the large, wide light-sensitive film reels created in the previous stages are now cut into narrower strips and packaged for our use!

From Smarter every day takes us back to the Kodak Studio in Rochester, New York for the final installment of this series. In previous videos, we have detailed how the film background is created and then made it sensitive to light. In this video we see the processes where these huge rolls of film are fed into the precision machine, where they are cut to the right sizes, then holes are added so the film can be lifted. in-camera and ultimately how they’re packed into metal boxes, all in the dark.

The process is complex, as one would expect, with every machine fine-tuned to ensure that the very fine tolerances required are always met. This is where the knowledge, skill and experience of the machine operator comes into play. Destin takes us deep into every aspect of this process with his keen inquisitive mind.

Dive in and find out just how magical the film you’re using in your camera these days really is! If you haven’t seen the first two, check them out first:
