Good news! Kia confirms that it is developing a midsize pickup truck to confront Ford Ranger. Except it’s only confirmed for Australia. Will we ever see it in America? We certainly hope so. It would be impolite for Kia to develop a pickup truck and not sell it here. In fact, we’d say we’ll most likely get the new Kia truck as well.
According to Australia which car?A reputable source in Kia’s Australian dealer network said the futuristic truck was announced at a recent dealer conference and will go on sale in 2025. When asked for comment, Kia Australia has confirmed the fact that the truck is under development but will not comment on any other details.
A Kia Australia spokesperson said: “Kia is currently developing a futuristic pickup truck that is highly functional and fit for purpose. which car?. “Additional details will be confirmed in due course.”
Unlike the Hyundai Santa Cruz, Kia’s upcoming pickup will be a real chassis pickup and will be a real competitor to the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux. However, if you’ve been paying attention to Australian automotive media (which we certainly all have), this really shouldn’t come as a surprise. Spy photos of a heavily camouflaged Kia pickup surfaced late last year.
Kia also announced last year that it is working on two pickup trucks. At the time, Kia said it planned to make both pickups in the US, which suggests at least one of them will be sold there. After all, why would Kia go to the trouble of building one truck in the US if they plan to export all of them to other countries? That wouldn’t make any sense. Also, the 2025 Australian release date pretty much coincides with Kia’s previous statement that it plans to start production here in 2024. So get ready everyone. In the next few years, there may be a new midsize pickup being considered.
