The engine of the Ninja ZX-6R is still a 4-cylinder in-line, DOHC, 636cc capacity, liquid-cooled and has a bore / stroke of 67.0 x 45.1mm. However, Kawasaki has modified the cam profile for better low-rpm performance and to help meet more stringent emissions standards. Another update that helps meet emissions standards is the revised layout for the header pipes. The new layout is intended to improve the response from the O2 sensor and allow for optimized catalyst mass and loading. The revised shape of the intake hopper is also claimed to increase low to mid-range performance.
