Round 5 of the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship saw the Baggers return to the track at Road America with a newly crowned winner and the leaderboard continuing to top.
Weather caused Sunday’s Mission King Of The Baggers race to be moved to later in the day, and the race’s duration was reduced to four laps, raising the stakes for all riders.
HD Screamin’ Eagle factory racer Travis Wyman did it all in his stride, instantly feeling strong on the track despite the conditions and winning the first Baggers race in his career. his career.
He overtook his teammate, reigning weight champion and tennis player Kyle Wyman by just under a second, making it the two Harleys on the podium in doing so. Kyle had a strong qualifier but finished fifth at one point in the race, before returning.
Third place went to Jeremy McWilliams of India, the legendary Ulsterman taking part in Road America for the first time.
Travis Wyman – P1
“For me, (this victory) perhaps at least of the top three, I have never won a race on a Harley. All those years on the XR1200s, I stood up. I finished second and third in the championship. To have a win here, and especially at Road America, and see how many Harley fans there are and how many are from the factory here, it’s certainly been a pivotal moment. I told (my brother) Kyle on the way here, I was very worried about the race conditions. I hate wet/dry conditions. I think at best I’ll be fifth or sixth in this race. But, as soon as I got off to a good start and got on with the boys, I couldn’t really fully fit in right away with Jeremy (McWilliams) or Tyler (O’Hara), but I felt real. , really strong in this area. . I haven’t felt comfortable on this bike probably since we were in Daytona for the first practice session. I feel really strong. So to get the form we had in the last round at Atlanta and the test that we did to get back here and win, I don’t even believe this is real. This is extraordinary.”
Kyle Wyman – P2
“Harley-Davidson 1-2 in Wisconsin! Travis did a perfect race and escaped early. I eliminated and tried to roll back to fifth place at a time to knock out P2. We are in this championship war. Head to Laguna. “
The leaderboard now leads Tyler O’Hara after finishing fourth, seven points ahead of Jeremy McWilliams. Travis Wyman is third, five points behind Kyle Wyman, and James Rispoli is further fifth with 43 points, along with Taylor Knapp.
