Jussie Smollett makes a rare appearance at the 2022 BET Awards
In addition to announcing that new music will be “very soon,” Smollett shared a message to his supporters, who have stood by him throughout his legal drama.
“I just tell them, with all my heart, just thank you guys,” he told the outlet. “They never wavered. They never crossed the fence and for that, I’m forever grateful. I don’t take that lightly.”
He continued, “My family, my friends, real people, supporters, just, you know… If I never got to hug you in person, just know yes a hug in the heart that I really mean.”
In March, Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in prison plus 30 months of probation for making a false police statement after telling investigators he was the victim of an alleged crime in 2019. After lawyers appealed his sentence, Smollett was released from prison just six days after serving his sentence.
