Juan Francisco Estrada vs Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez Trilogy Edges Closer
Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada and Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez III, to be announced soon.
Both campaigns were in the super flyweight division and had two stand-out back-and-forth games, leaving fans in their seats for the entire 24 innings.
Estrada has been out of action since their last meeting in March 2021, a match he won via split decision to retain his WBA ‘Super’ strap in the process.
The news broke earlier this week that the 32-year-old has now vacated the title raising ‘Normal’ champion Joshua Franco to ‘Super’.
Meanwhile, the multi-division world champion Gonzalez’s final match was a decisive win in the losing side to WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinezwho is stepping up to the weight class to challenge the old general 51-3.
Earlier this year, Gonzalez and Estrada were scheduled to fight for the third time, only for the second category to withdraw after testing positive for Covid-19.
Estrada spoke to DAZN earlier this week and announced that he was returning to practice for a potential trio battle with rival Chocolatito:
“The war with Roman Gonzalez is still going on. We had a bit of a battle on dates, first he had coronavirus, then me. And so far that has not happened. But we are looking at November or December”.
