Jonjo O’Neill: ‘If he dances and travels like last year, he’ll still take a little while to catch on’
Coach Jonjo O’Neill had his most productive season in five years last year, amassing £900,000 in prize money and making a glorious comeback with 71 campaign winners.
He’s also his first Cheltenham Festival winner since 2016 when the Sky Pirate won the annual Grand. That horse could be another direct contender this year in the better races.

The Grand National signaled to Cloth Cap again
Owned by the late Trevor Hemmings, Coif made great progress last season and is a very good order for the Grand National at Aintree in April. Things didn’t go as planned for connections and favorites 11-2 were unfortunately pulled up.
Crossing the 148 mark that day is a glorious opportunity in the weight class but you need a lot of luck to win the Nationals. Below, we hear a quote from O’Neill on Cloth Cap for the upcoming season.
‘We went to the Grand National full of confidence last season, but for whatever reason his epiglottis came out and Tom Scudamore did the right thing to pull him up. We sorted that out and Tom said he didn’t hear anything during his comeback last month, so that’s good news. ‘
‘I think he ran a cracker and he should keep running physically and mentally. He’s not as disabled as he was last year but we’ll be at the Ladbrokes Trophy again next time. If he jumps and walks like last year, he’ll still take some time to catch. Country is the plan when Trevor [Hemmings] was with us and I see no reason to change it. ‘
The Cloth Cap is a 16-1 chance for the Ladbrokes Trophy and it’s currently 33-1 for the Grand National.
