Joe Joyce the next fight – Christian Hammer
After recovering from a wrist injury, Joe Joyce (13-0, 12 KOs) will face heavyweight veteran Christian Hammer (27-9, 17 KOs) on July 2 at OVO Arena, Wembley, London.
Not fighting since defeating Carlos Takam 11 months ago, ‘The Juggernaut’ has faced fellow compatriot Joseph Parker this summer. But since they faced off on the Tyson Fury-Dillian Whyte show that aired on April 23, negotiations have hit a snag and the doors were closed in that war in this time.
Hammer, 34, has turned pro since 2008 and has fought the likes of Tyson Fury, Alexander Povetkin, Luis Ortiz and Hughie Fury. The Germans’ best victories were against Erkin Teper, David Price and Michael Wallisch, respectively.
Despite being two years older and having only played 13 times professionally, it is Joyce who is on the verge of winning the world championship. The Londoner is the number one candidate with the WBO and second with the WBC.
Joyce said: “I have known about Christian Hammer for a while. Queensbury Promotion Press Release.
“He’s been fighting everyone, it’s going to be a good fight, he’s moving forward and it’s going to be interesting. It’s the one to get me ready for the next battle to come.
“I’ve been out of the ring for a year so it would be nice to brush off your gloves and shake off the cobwebs. It’s going to be a big year, this year and next, with some great games and I just need to be in the right place. “
The July 2 card, which will be broadcast live on BT Sport, also features Jason Cunningham v Zolani Tete, Callum Johnson v Igor Mikhalkin, Mark Chamberlain v Marc Videl, etc.
