Jett Lawrence wraps up well with AMA 250 ProMX championship
Jett Lawrence
Australian teenager Jett Lawrence finished the Lucas Oil 250 Pro Motocross 2022 championship today in California. Earlier this year, Jett won the 250 Supercross East championship, thus completing a rare dual SX/MX season.
Jett also won the outdoor 250 championship in 2021, and at the ripe old age of 19, he is now the tenth most successful 125/250 AMA MX racer in history, after a total of 13 wins overall.
Throughout the 2022 series, which saw riders complete 24 motos over 12 laps, the Australian’s repeat title was never seriously questioned, as he drove his CRF250R to 11 moto wins and 9 overall wins. Lawrence finished the season with a 45-point advantage over the nearest opponent. For the second year in a row, Jett’s brother and Team Honda HRC colleague Hunter Lawrence also finished in third place, after picking up three motorcycle wins and nine podium finals.
The Lawrence brothers are natives of Landsborough, in Queensland, Australia, where Jett was a successful young amateur racer before moving to Europe for the 2016 ADAC German and 85 European motor racing events. , and then the European 250 motor racing tournament. His family moved to the US in 2019, where he and Hunter raced for the Honda-backed Factory Connection team. In 2020, Jett received the Marty Smith Rookie of the Year Award, and last year the Lawrences switched to the factory’s Team Honda HRC program, where Jett won his first National Championship, in the same class. Earlier this year, he won his first “indoor” title, the AMA Supercross East Region 250SX Championship.
Jett Lawrence
“It’s great to get work done consistently. I’m definitely grateful. The team has been amazing this year. Honda has come up with a great new CRF250R and I’d love to use it again in Supercross next year. I’m also excited to ride the 450 in Pro Motocross next summer. I definitely have a bit of work to do before fighting top guys like Eli [Tomac] and Chase [Sexton]. It’s going to be so much fun, and I can’t wait any longer. “
After the race, Jett Lawrence was presented with the Gary Jones Trophy — an award that goes to the winner of 250 championships. The Honda HRC team came very close to claiming another 450th place crown, as Chase Sexton racked up nine motorcycle wins and four overall wins in his CRF450R, in a historic title showdown. expected him to finish only seven points behind Eli Tomac. Sexton’s teammate Ken Roczen also had a great year, scoring three finishes on the podium, including one win.
Lars Lindstrom – Team Manager
“What an incredible year for the Lawrence brothers and the CRF250R! When you start out with a new model, it can be very difficult to get the performance needed for an instant win and I couldn’t be more proud of our team and the effort that we put into it. they spent to do it. All this summer, we’ve been dominating 250 with Hunter and Jett, and I want to give Jett a huge congratulations on bringing home the AMA Pro Motocross 250 championship for the second time in a row! “
Following the race, Lindstrom was presented with the AMA Pro Motocross Team Manager of the Year Award and Jett Lawrence mechanic Christien Ducharme was awarded the Worker of the Year.
Jett Lawrence’s 2022 AMA Pro Motocross Championship is just in time, as Honda moves towards the 50th anniversary of its first production motorcycle, the CR250M Elsinore, which Gary Jones rode to the AMA Championship Honda’s first motocross was in 1973. It was an impressive year for Honda at global motocross, with Team HRC driver Tim Gajser recently driving his CRF450R to the 2022 FIM MXGP World Championship.
Additionally, Honda Canada GDR Fox Racing riders Ryder McNabb and Dylan Wright won 450 and 250 crowns in the Canadian Triple Crown Motocross series (with Wright winning every moto) and Australian rider Wilson Todd Factory Honda Team brought its CRF250R to the MX2 title in the Australian Pro MX Motocross Championship.
Next, Sexton and Lawrences will both compete in the Motocross of Nations on September 25 at Michigan’s RedBud MX (Sexton for Team America and the brothers for Team Australia).
