Jaguar’s ‘suffocating’ four-door GT will go on sale in 2024

Jaguar will be relaunched as an exclusive, ultra-luxury all-electric brand, with the first new electric vehicles of the era coming to buyers’ trails from 2025.

Based on a newly developed in-house architecture, dubbed JEA, which shares nothing with existing Jaguar and Land Rover platforms, or the upcoming EMA platform of a future Land Rover EV, the first vehicle Jaguar’s first from their daring new project will be a four-door GT.

The automaker said it will announce more details about the new car later this year, but for now it’s revealed that it will have a driving range of up to 700 km and prices will start at 100,000. British pounds ($185,000) in the UK.

This would put the GT, and the rest of the new Jaguar line-up, well beyond the current range, but still below ultra-luxury brands, like Bentley.

For reference, the current Bentley Flying Spur sedan starts at £156,000 ($290,000), while the top-end variants of the now-discontinued XJ start at around £92,000 ($170,000). The current XF range is priced at around £52,000 ($96,000).

The new electric GT will go on sale in certain markets in 2024, but the first cars won’t be delivered until 2025.

Following on from the four-door grand tourer, Jaguar plans to launch two more JEA-based vehicles. These are widely expected to be crossovers. All three electric cats will be manufactured at JLR’s Solihull plant on the outskirts of Birmingham.

Coinciding with today’s announcement, the company has released the first teaser image of the new four-door GT.

Although it’s hard to imagine what the new Jaguar will look like from this photo, Gerry McGovern, JLR’s chief designer, said: “We’ve completely reshaped Jaguar as a luxury brand. modern importance. The key to Jaguar’s transformation is designs that show that they are not copies.”

Eventually, all of the brand’s existing vehicles — the XE, XF, E-Pace, F-Pace, I-Pace, and F-Type — will be discontinued, leaving behind a complete range of ultra-luxury electric vehicles. all electric.

Based on carJaguar, reimagined is targeting to sell around 50,000 premium electric vehicles globally. This figure is not far from the 70,000 Jaguars sold in the 2021/2022 financial year, but far from previous expectations.

Ever since Ford bought Jaguar in 1990, the automaker has dreamed of being the British version of BMW. However, the classic-style X-Type and S-Type not only couldn’t usurp the 3 Series and 5 Series, but couldn’t even penetrate the outer walls of the castle.

Even after Tata acquired the company in 2008, the similarly designed XE and XF were still far behind their German rivals in the sales race.

Not long after Thierry Bollore took over at the helm of Jaguar Land Rover at the end of 2020, Jaguar almost complete elimination of the next generation electric XJand targeting all-electric from 2025 with more exclusive vehicle types.
