Amazon Studios is “close to an agreement” to develop a TV series based on Block effect, according to a recent Report deadline. Great tool. I am all for it! If Mass Effect gets turned into anything, I want it to be more of a potential long-running series than a movie so it has enough time to establish an excellent sci-fi setting. However, we need to talk about the story that Amazon can have from the games. To me, it looks like they will follow the trilogy, which I think is a step in the right direction. But I don’t think we need to see many sides of Shepard, you know? Instead, they should put Liara in the front and center.
Deadline states that Mass Effect is one of Amazon’s “latest hopes”, as the company wants to “invest in the fantasy genres”. That’s all they say, so keep this information in mind with a pinch of salt.
Having said that, it’s fun to think about what could have happened. My first thought was that a Mass Effect TV show would follow up with the trilogy because it’s epic and exciting and takes you through the origins of a threat that spans the galaxy (and let’s face it). , Andromeda is not as interesting). Also, I feel that’s what tends to happen with movie adaptations, they take the origin of something and make it easy to watch (similar to what’s happening with Uncharted, I suppose so).
But an important issue here was that they had to choose a Shepard Commander. And so help me if I have to witness another stubborn explosion that saves the universe. However, if they go the DudeShep route, they can at least soften the blow by making Liara the main character.
Those who’ve played the game have seen Shep take control, and sci-fi like this rarely puts aliens in the lead. And Liara will work perfectly! She’s an archaeologist who has studied protists, which would be a great way to teach new observers about the lore. Best of all, in the first game her mother was a villain – now that’s the kind of drama that’s right for TV.
I always enjoy watching stories unfold from multiple perspectives, and this can be a great way to see what Liara is up to in between games as well. She plays a key role in the restoration of Shep’s body, gets all sorts of interesting secrets while working as an information broker, and even eventually becomes a scientist on Mars. before ME3. The lead Liara would be a great way to follow the trilogy’s intriguing plot, but explore more of what she’s achieved while we work as a space cop.
But hey, Amazon might not actually be making a Mass Effect series, at the moment that’s just a rumor. I’m okay with that, I like Mass Effect being a video game. Plus, if I really wanted to see Mass Effect-like science fiction on television, I still have The Expanse.
