Things took a turn for the worse at Thursday’s final press conference for the Gervonta Davis-Ryan Garcia pay-per-view match that will take place this Saturday night in Las Vegas. Davis and Garcia, young, sadistic and eye-catching, displayed a threatening level of confidence as they went head-to-head in a pre-fight brawl this weekend. “I will finish him off,” Garcia said of Davis. “I promise. It’s over.” Davis’ reaction to Garcia’s rude confidence? “Fantasy. That’s it.” Indeed, it wasn’t long before things started to get personal between the two men.

“You’re laughing,” Garcia told Davis onstage at one point, “but I’m completely serious. It will happen and it will end quickly. So fast.” Garcia is just getting started. He told his opponent: “You are the lowest punch in boxing right now. “You met the wrong person right here…this is where things catch up to you in every way…you are finished.”

Davis, of course, is not such a liar. He told Garcia: “I’m touching that jaw, I’m telling you you’re going to bed. “When I touch anything you fall asleep,” Garcia retorted. “You go to the temple,” Davis said, “you don’t go at the jaw. I will break your function. I promise you. Don’t even bring your mother or daughter. Davis went on to make it clear that he doesn’t believe Garcia is anything more than a punch. He said of Garcia: “This guy has no basic knowledge at all. “That was all he relied on was a hook…no defense, nothing, no footwork, no head movement, nothing.”

The topic turned to a leak that Davis claimed Garcia had in his camp. Garcia said he doesn’t care if his training camp is monitored. Garcia said: “You want to watch me practice tonight, you can. “The whole team can come and watch. It won’t stop what’s going to happen.” What is certain to happen this weekend (except in the event of disaster) is that two of the most famous boxers in the world will go head-to-head in their absolute prime. That’s a rarity in contemporary fighting games.

“You can’t get to this position without something special,” says Garcia. “I am who I am,” Davis said. “I am that guy. I am that guy. I didn’t get this all the way here from nothing. I put the work in. I got those people out there. No problem, Saturday night will prove to be nothing if not completely enjoyable.
