I made an upside down pyramid house in a beautiful Minecraft cave

Come one, come all, and witness one of the best Minecraft houses that I used to bother helping to do. Listen, I’m not usually a builder in survival crafting games. I’m an explorer (and a frequent diner). But with Cave & Cliffs Update Part 2 arrived last month, I had a new purpose: to make the most amazing home I could find in the biggest cave I could find. And so I give you, the inverted deep pyramid (located just below some festive tundra!)

Me and my friends always try to get back to Minecraft around this time every year, but I’m especially excited about our new project because of the game’s new Lush Cave biome. However, after several hours of searching for one of the different seeds, we could not find any. Oh, the eye can see the dripping rocks, but I haven’t seen a cave full of plants yet. I’m starting to think they might not exist.

Failing that, I went online to find good seeds. Scorned by the Lush Caves, I decided to give them up altogether and instead try to find the largest cave I could. Luckily, Ollie had exactly what I was looking for in his guide Best Minecraft Seeds – a huge cave. You were born in it and everything! Here’s what it looks like (before we start building):

Ollie’s photo has nice shadows.

Aaa and this is what it looks like now:

I don’t have a shader mod, so it’s very murky here.

We made most of the pyramid out of deep stone, although the small top is made of amethyst. The wood inside is made of spruce, because no other trees spawn even remotely nearby. We did an underground farm and everything. It’s a modest build, not exactly the kind of incredible Buckingham Palace replica you can see on the Minecraft subreddit, but we’re very proud of it. There’s still some work to be done – we especially want to raise the support bars to make the pyramid look more buoyant.

It’s mostly a lovely place to set up. Admittedly, Ollie’s mention of the tundra outside the cave in his guidebook is one of the main reasons I wanted to use this seed. It felt just like Christmassy when we left to explore the frigid biome, and sometimes the snow even reached the top of our cave house.

But, and this is a big deal, but now I’ve learned how horrible it is to try to build underground when the only things that spawn above you are polar bears and ice. They look amusing and the cubs are adorable (when their parents don’t attack you). However, what is not mentioned in that guide is that the nearest biome is not snow and death is almost 2000 blocks away. It’s about a two-day journey on foot. And along the way, are bags of snow that essentially act like quicksand, pulling you down when you least expect it, freezing you to death.

Reader, I’ve been trying to be better. I strive to be a useful builder, gathering supplies for friends and suggesting outside exploration. Then the two of us ventured out, 2000 blocks away, until we finally managed to spot a grass-free, snow-free biome ahead.

As soon as a village began to appear on the horizon, we died from a creeper. I lost our diamond pickaxe. We live again in the icy darkness. And just like that, I finished Minecraft in another year.
