Hyundai Grandeur EV revives 1980s design with pixelated lighting of Ioniq . models
Hyundai recently unveiled an EV facelift of its 1980s flagship Grandeur sedan, incorporating design elements from the upcoming Ioniq electric models.
Unveiled in 1986, the Grandeur was Hyundai’s first attempt at a flagship luxury sedan, setting the stage for today’s Genesis luxury brand.
The formal sedan retains most of the design cues of its period — and it highlights the Parametric Pixel approach it introduced in. Seven SUV concept for the 2021 Los Angeles auto show, scheduled to debut next week. Seven will preview the production model Ioniq 7 slated to launch in 2024.

That same approach is seen in some details of Ioniq 6 (based on the Hyundai Prophecy Concept), albeit with a much curvier silhouette.
The restyling Grandeur EV also features a reworked interior with a modern digital display, as well as a smaller vertical touchscreen that seems to replace most analog controls. According to Hyundai.
This is really the second Hyundai Heritage Series EV restructuring concept. Earlier this year, Hyundai showed off a Pony Heritage Series concept, with updates similar to the Grandeur Heritage Series.

That means an electric powertrain, Ioniq-style pixelated lighting and a full-screen interior. The screens appear to have graphics similar to the touchscreens found on current Hyundai models, including vacuum tubes for the radios, creating a feel that is particularly fitting for this classic concept.
Unveiled in 1975, the original Hyundai Pony hatchback was the first vehicle developed by the automaker. It is also the design inspiration for Hyundai 45 concept, thereby setting the direction of production Ioniq 5 The crossover is scheduled to launch in 2022.
