How Dead Space touches PS5 haptics and activates adaptations for horror immersive – PlayStation.Blog

With PlayStation 5’s DualSense wireless controller, we at Motive are able to immerse players deeper into Isaac’s thrilling journey aboard the USG Ishimura. Throughout various events such as weapon firing, ship impact asteroids, and attack Necromorphs, haptic feedback allows the player to feel the impact like Isaac.

Our goal with weapons is to give each one a unique feel and feel to make the experience of fighting with Necromorphs more immersive. Read on for some compelling examples of DualSense controller gameplay:

Plasma Cutting Machine

You stabilize your plasma cutter and aim for the leg of an oncoming Slasher. You place your finger on the DualSense controller trigger and push it past the threshold needed to fire the weapon, immediately feeling the weapon’s vibration. The DualSense controller trigger then pushes back up, re-initializing for your next shot.

The same type of trigger effect is also found on flamethrowers, but the slight difference is that you can feel a slight vibration on the trigger as the ejected gas turns into flames.

Pulse Rifle

A Swollen starts to slither towards you as you pull out your pulse gun. To survive, you must give everything you have, drain the remaining bullets to defeat the approaching threat. While holding down the DualSense trigger button, you will feel it warping with each bullet fired from the rifle.

Movement and haptics

When entering certain zero-gravity areas, the player can activate Isaac’s magnetic boots. Through tactile vibrations on the controller, players will feel the impact of each step as the magnetic shoe makes contact with the floor.

When players use Isaac’s Kinesis and Stasis modules, they get the same real-time feedback through the controller through rich haptic vibrations.

control speaker

To enhance the experience, players will receive valuable gaming feedback through the controller’s speakers. During the player’s journey, when they perform certain actions such as picking up items, refilling stagnant energy, and using locators, they will hear those effects from Isaac’s RIG through through sound.

You can dive into this iconic story for yourself and experience the immersive feel of the DualSense controller and adaptive trigger effects when Dead Space releases January 27 on PlayStation 5.
