What is the worst game of 2022?

Not every game released will set the world on fire. Some will be more disappointing than expected. Others may be downright unplayable. So as we wrap up our game of the year talk for 2022 at Siliconera, we decided to reveal each of the worst games we’ve played.

It’s fresh in my mind, because I just need to play it, but Samurai Maiden. D3 Publisher titles are a guilty pleasure to me, and this frustrates me in many ways. The script is terrible. The controls are not precise enough. I don’t like how combo unlocks and special attacks work. Extremely generic enemies. It feels like a real chore to play. If it was a $20 title, I could live with it. But it’s 60 dollars really bothers me too. — jenni

worst game 2022 protocol callisto

I feel like as I continue to rate games, there is always one that completely destroys my PC, is just average, completely lousy, or all three. And Callisto . protocol that it.

Not only did it completely destroy my PC resolution after some crashes that made me hard to restart my PC, but the battle is an unforgettable tagline and story. The enemy designs are ridiculous and completely forgettable, and it feels like a clumsy re-read of PS3-era horror games like Silent Hill: Back Home. It’s just not great from the ground up, technical issues aside. — kazuma

fantasy tower

All of the 2022 games that I’ve personally played have had some enticing or redeeming element to it, with the exception of one that I’d forget if it weren’t mentioned at The Game Awards. : Imagination Tower. I’m not sure how the game is now after most people abandoned it in favor of the big Sumeru update in The Genshin effectbut when i play it, Imagination Tower is an ugly and boring mess. In theory, the story can be interesting, but in practice, it is impossible to sit through it all.

Granted, a lot of my ire for Imagination Tower also has a lot to do with things outside of the game. Some of the things the development team did (from arguing with Chinese IDs to stealing reviews) left a bad impression in my mouth, and the general discussion around this issue online has given it a bad reputation. Maybe Tower of Fantasy isn’t doing so badly right now, but given the current situation, I personally consider it the worst game I’ve played in 2022. — Stephanie

FFXIV's emotes and gear are in the fall of Babylon

It’s my nature to try to find something to like in whatever I play, and I’m pretty forgiving of almost any game for which I’m under no obligation to expertly judge. I also don’t like “hate playing”, which means I often have very little to say when it comes time to throw a ball at our least favorite titles. That said, it’s harder to find that grace for The Fall of Babylon, a game that, on most levels, seems like a bad idea PlatinumGames couldn’t give up in the womb. The game’s inability to muster that sense of momentum, and the pursuit of direct-service design trends reminds me of the bad old days of the PS3 era, when developers around the world mimicked games. play cover based shooting like Gears of War in an attempt to capture the market-leading designs of the time. The results often feel like mismatched duplicates, a lack of understanding of why things work the way they should.

Maybe give more time, The Fall of Babylon may have been pulled into the niche of competence to attract a long-term player base. The service game tends to be given many such opportunities. Unfortunately, Square Enix doesn’t seem willing to wait, and the game is now shutting down in February. I’m not cold enough to say “good release,” but I’d be lying if I said I’m sorry to see it gone. Platinum hasn’t given up on the prospect of service games, so I’ll note that I hope they draw some positive lessons for the next one. — Josh
