For 15 years, a white Arabian horse named Jenny has been walking the town by herself. The mare used to go for walks with her owner, Werner Weischedel, but now she walks alone.
Based on a post by Keith Anderson, Weischedel couldn’t ride Jenny about 15 years ago but the mare didn’t want to stop her daily walks through Frankfurt, Germany.
Instead of locking her up in a barn, Weischedel lets Jenny go out through the gate – and the horse makes its own way along their familiar path and back home for lunch!
Since then, Jenny still goes for a walk every morning. She greeted ordinary faces and accepted gifts from passersby, and at times, she startled an unsuspecting stranger.
In the post, Anderson shared: “A piece of paper was attached to the strap of her shirt that said, ‘My name is Jenny. I’m not running, I’m just walking. Thank you.”
Before Jenny became a solo traveler through the boulevards of the Fechenheim district, her owner shared that she was part of a “caravan”. Talk to FNP“We had a second mare, Charlie, and a second white sheepdog,” says Weischedel. There we traveled like a white caravan through Fechenheim. Almost 15 years. ”
Now, the group is only Jenny, although the German Shepherd Evita occasionally comes along for part of the daily walks.
Jenny walks the same route about 8 times a day, about 9 to 12 miles before going home for lunch.
Based on Panda is boredMaren Hellige, a local veterinarian who has given Jenny a routine check-up, says the mare “seems very comfortable and content”, despite her unique lifestyle.
Throughout the years, Jenny has not caused any safety incidents, although she is regularly reported to the police. However, the police know about Jenny and her owner and they are fine with their arrangement.
Jenny really gets to live the best of both worlds, enjoying home life with her master and the independence of wandering the town. What else could the horse ask for?
