It’s a sad fact, but many animals are unnecessarily killed for food. Even in areas with access to other protein-rich foods such as beans, soy and imitation meats, animal meat remains a popular choice.
In some areas, dogs are still kept or used for food. It’s not as common as it used to be, but in areas like China, Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam, small numbers of people consume dog meat, resulting in dogs being brutally killed.
One dog on its way to being slaughtered is an adorable-looking poodle named Patou. The sweet dog has lived his life on a dog meat farm, and it would have ended there if it weren’t for the rescuers with International Humanitarian Association.
The Humane Society shared on YouTube:
“HSI works year-round in China, Korea, Indonesia and Vietnam to end cruelty. In most countries, dogs are pets that are stolen or grabbed on the street. In Korea, dogs are raised in horrible conditions.
Dog and cat dealers hunt animals on the street, steal pets from backyards, or buy them from owners. They were crammed together on the backs of trucks and driven for days — sick, hungry, thirsty, injured and scared — then beaten to death or hanged in an abattoir or market. In Korea, dogs are kept in barren cages, with no food, water or protection from the elements.”
It’s no way for anyone to live and dogs are no exception. Each of them deserves to be treated with care and compassion, but most of the dogs in the meat industry never know what it feels like to be loved.

Thankfully for some dogs, like Patou, help arrives at the right time and they get a second chance at life. Patou may be a dog whose story begins and ends on a meat farm, but instead, he is living his best life in his new permanent home!
