Horse sitting on a bean bag and handing out cards to the owner
When most people think of pet training, we imagine teaching a dog to “sit” or “play dead”. Dogs are probably the most popular animals for teaching tricks, but other animals have the ability to learn while playing too!
Some Cats are trained to perform tricks, as well as more unique pets like mice and rabbits.
But learning a new skill isn’t something exclusive to smaller, indoor pets. Farm animals can learn them too!
In fact, one woman in Austria had an entire camp dedicated to teaching horses new tricks. her organization, Crazy horses, work with horses to help them perform entertaining tricks and shows. She’s basically putting the horses through circus training!
One of the horses captured on film is doing a pretty strict stunt. In a video shared on Facebook, the horse can be sitting on a giant bean bag and playing a card game with its owner!
What makes the stunt even more impressive is the way the horse appears relaxed as it sits there, using its mouth to draw cards from the table. It was as if he was enjoying a leisurely game with a friend, and not performing to have fun.
To get the horse to play, the trainer spent hours working on it. First, she teaches horses to sit on beanbags – a skill she teaches many of her horses.
She then combines the cards and uses the rewards as an incentive for the horse to draw a card. Every time he draws a card, he gets a reward. Before long, the two were playing a card game like old friends!
