Sega is betting big on Sonic Frontiers This year, and just before the June launch, the company shared a “small preview” of the game’s open-world exploration and action gameplay. Sega says to expect more information “throughout June,” but for now, this is about 20 seconds of decent-to-nice gameplay footage (albeit shredded and teased).
Is this what you are expecting from Sonic Frontiers?
As someone who really just got right into Sonic’s side-scrolling adventure, the idea of a 3D Sonic word cue game Breath of the Wild was interestingadmittedly – enough for me to notice news and intro videos like this one.
That said, let’s talk about an extremely high order for Sonic Team. Many of us know to go in with modest expectations, and I’m sticking to that strategy until proven otherwise.
Do your best, there’s just so much to gain from this lack of context Sonic Frontiers gameplay clips. A realistic green landscape with floating rails dotting the horizon? Not necessarily the strongest first impression. In the new shot, Sonic runs on a wheel to power a radar (?), runs around the robots in a skirmish and finally a big boy.
The promise of “freedom in the open area”
For me, whether this game succeeds will depend on two general questions: going through this world is inherently fun, and whether I feel rewarded for discovering beyond the fastest path ahead. are not? If Sonic Frontiers maybe remove those bars, that would be a good starting point to keep me interested in the review and launch of the game This year.
Sega will be back with more Sonic Frontiers revealed starting tomorrow, June 1, on IGN.
Today’s trailer doesn’t reveal any new release time information, but Sonic Frontiers confirmed for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.
