It can be hard to ask for help, but between people, it’s easy to understand what someone needs by talking about it. However, animals cannot ask for help directly, no matter how much they want to. When an animal seeks help from a human, it is a heartwarming experience, but it takes a while to understand what the creature is trying to say.
In an adorable video from Inside Edition, five animals ask for help in unique ways. Some of them ended up saving lives by doing so. In some cases it’s their own lives, but other times, they put the safety of others first.
Bullet Wound Elephant
In 2016, an elephant in Zimbabwe named “Pretty Boy” was in so much pain that he had to turn to humans for help. He was shot in the head, and the bullet lodged in the poor animal’s skull. The bullet was only a few centimeters away and could kill him instantly.
Doctors examined Pretty Boy and then surgically removed the bullet. If not for help, perhaps the elephant would not have survived that heartbreaking situation.
The dog reacts to the seizure
Because dogs are so closely attached to humans, they are most likely to ask for help. The Inside Edition video showcases an intelligent dog named Clover who witnessed his human having a seizure while on a walk in 2021.
At first, Clover tried to wake his human, but when that didn’t work, the puppy crossed the street to flag the next car that was approaching. The driver stopped the car and stepped outside to see what was happening. When he saw the woman’s body lying on the side of the road, he called for help.

Haley Moore, of Clover, said: ‘All I remember is waking up in the ambulance and very confused.
A neighbor’s surveillance footage captured Clover’s actions, proving just how loyal and intelligent the puppy is.
Coyote approaches golfers
When the two were golfing in 2017, a coyote approached them, looking distressed. Wolves usually avoid humans at all costs, so they know something is wrong with him.
The wolf seemed hungry and thirsty. The golfers did not have food available, but they were able to offer the dog a glass of water and the coyote happily drank from it. After quenching his thirst, the wolf wandered for about ten minutes, but then kept going. Golfers were shocked because they had never been this close to a wolf before.
The mother goose saw her baby goose in trouble
In 2016, an officer saw a goose behaving strangely and tried to feed it. She refused and led him to the wild goose entangled in the rope. The officer called the ASPCA for help, but they were unable to get to the scene immediately. So an officer came to help free the baby goose.
The mother goose honked a few times but did not interrupt the officer as she removed the rope from the chick’s body. When she put the baby goose down, the baby goose sprinted back to the water with the mother close behind.
Bird kept saying, “Help me!”
Not all stories are about a tragic situation. In one involving a parrot, the ending is more humorous than emotional. When a UPS driver approached a house in 2017, he heard a voice inside repeating “help me”. So the delivery driver asked his wife to call for help.
When police arrived to inspect the house in question, they encountered a woman and her parrot. The parrot called for help and its mother explained that it often calls for help when left alone. He loves attention, so he calls for help when lonely and longing for affection. He doesn’t realize that he’s making people worry for no reason because to him it’s a very serious problem.
These are just five of many cases where animals have turned to humans for help. Animals solve problems a lot better than we give them credit for.
