Ferrari is the latest well-known company to fall victim to hackers and says it won’t pay a ransom to prevent it from disclosing customer details.
Supercar experts (and SUV makers) contacted customers today to confirm “threat actors can access a limited number of systems in our IT environment”.
It’s unclear if the Australian customer suffered a data breach, but the letter about the leak was sent to local Ferrari owners.
“As part of this incident, a number of data relating to our customers were exposed including names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers,” the brand said in today’s announcement. client.
“Your data may have been included as part of this incident. However, based on our investigation, there are no payment details and/or bank account numbers and/or other sensitive payment information, nor details about the Ferrari cars owned by us. possession or order has been stolen.”
Ferrari said it would not pay the ransom to the hackers.
“As a policy, Ferrari will not be required to pay a ransom because paying such claims further funds criminal activity and allows threat actors to continue their attacks. Furthermore, it does not fundamentally change data exposure,” it said in its client letter.
“When we received the ransom request, we initiated an investigation in collaboration with a leading global third-party forensic company and confirmed the authenticity of the data. In addition, we have informed the relevant authorities and are confident that they will investigate to the end according to the law.”
“We have worked with third-party experts to further strengthen our systems and trust their resilience. We can also confirm that the breach did not affect the operational functions of our company.”
Ferrari isn’t the only car brand hit by hackers recently.
In late 2021, hackers stole Volvo’s research and development data, while in 2020, a cyberattack brought Honda production in the United States to a halt.
