Grateful dog “Foster Fail” saved her family of 6 from a devastating house fire
Usually, when someone thinks of the word “failure,” they associate it with a negative outcome. But when it comes to a doggie that “fails to nurture,” there’s nothing negative about it. You achieve something amazing!
This is especially true of “Gracie failed to nurture”. Not only did she become a great addition to her new family, but she also proved to be a hero dog.
It was in the early hours of a chilly December morning when Emily, the eldest daughter in the Haegeman’s family, awakened by Gracie’s panicked barking. Emily was the first of the six sleeping members of the family to be awakened by a Labradoodle and Border Collie mix.
Almost immediately after opening her eyes, Emily knew something was wrong. So she started screaming at the top of her lungs.
Emily’s scream is what excites her father Devin. Within six minutes of waking him, Devin called 911, helped his sons get to safety, and got out with his wife and daughters.
Fortunately, he was able to take action immediately because Less than ten minutes after everyone was safely out, the laundry room was completely submerged, and huge flames shot up into the sky. It would be absolutely impossible to get all of his children to safety in time.
“I woke up. My watch says 5:01 a.m. 911 call says 5:02 a.m. By 5:06 a.m., I got everyone out of the house, and at 5:08 a.m., when the fire department arrived, the wall in the laundry room Devin recalled.
Gracie saving her family was not a miracle. Usually, she sleeps in the bedroom with her father and mother. But as fate would have it, she didn’t make it in time before they closed for the night.
If it hadn’t been for Gracie to wake her family up at the exact moment she did, it would have been a bigger tragedy. The fire had started in the laundry room and engulfed their house too quickly; It’s unbelievable that they all survived.
“So the dog that we had to nurture and love became a member of our family. She is gentle and kind and wonderful. And this morning, she woke Emily up, and really saved our lives.”
When all the human family members were safe outside, Devin noticed that Gracie was gone. Miraculously, he went back inside, found Gracie hiding under the bed, and brought them both to safety before their house was completely engulfed in flames.
While Devin shared that running back inside and saving Gracie resulted in him getting carbon monoxide poisoning, he insists it was deserved it for what Gracie did for their family that day.
