Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) Candidates Blue Stripe shining on October 26 in her final work for a November 5 outing at KeenelandCoach Marcelo Polanco pleases as she watches in the footsteps of her half-sister, Distaff winner of 2019 Blue Award .
Working on her own with local racer Ferrin Peterson on board, the 5-year-old daughter of Pozo de Luna Equal stripes back to fractions of: 12 1/5, :25 1/5 and :37 3/5 over a 5-minute period of 1:00 on a route rated as good. She galloped vigorously to six stretches in 1:12 1/5, seven eighths in 1:24 4/5 and one mile in 1:39 2/5.
“She’s got some nice gears,” Peterson told Polanco, who put the racer into her first Southern California winner at Racetrack Los Alamitos in 2019.
With Hector Berrios in the iron, she took Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (G1) on October 6 at Del Mara Breeder’s Cup Challenge event for Distaff.
Blue Stripe completed the prep work including moving on October 17:59 3/5 at her home base Santa Anita . Park.
“Her last practice session in Santa Anita too, it was a very good job,” Polanco said. “We were expecting another good piece of work and she delivered, so I think we’re in the right place at the right time.
“I think she’s really blossoming right now, so I’m glad that’s how we got to this last training session. It’s been a really nice job and I’m happy with the way it’s done. she passed it so far this morning.”
Also winning the Santa Margarita Stakes (G2) this April, Blue Stripe looks set to improve as she finishes seventh in 2021’s Distaff at Del Mar, her North American debut. Not yet 2nd, she won group 1 and group 2 in Argentina at the age of 4 after breaking her maidenhood and placed 1st in 3rd place. Distaff will be her first start outside of California. or her native Argentina.
Blue Stripe is consigned to The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton’s bull stock sale in Lexington, where she will be offered for sale on November 6 as the Hip 316 as a racing prospect/daddy mother by Taylor Made Sales Agent.
