Golovkin reacts to Canelo .’s powerful punch
Canelo Alvarez had a lot to say about his next opponent and former rival Gennadiy Golovkin before their September 17 trio match.
The undisputed super-middleweight champion has spoken out about what he really thinks of the Kazakhs, but Golovkin decided to keep his emotions in check during recent press conferences for their third bout.
Having played each other twice, the Mexican is adept at giving his opinion on how difficult Golovkin is after 24 rounds with him. The current unified middleweight champion has 37 wins in the gap to his 43-fight record, but Canelo compared the strength of the 40-year-old man to that of Dmitry Bivol.
The WBA lightweight champion beat Alvarez in May on points but was not credited for finishing the match in the gap. The last goal of the Russian came to Sullivan Barrera 4 years ago.
Golovkin was asked by FightHype What does he think of those latest comments from Canelo and in true ‘Big Drama Show’ style, his attack is deadly. Through an interpreter, he said:
“I played against Canelo at 160 and I can say he is a faster puncher, he has faster combos.”
“I wouldn’t say those are power punches, knockout punches.”
“Those are clean shots that don’t yield results.”
“Of course he’s in a different weight class now but he says he can go up to 190lbs and beat Usyk – let’s get back to reality.”
Golovkin then took the opportunity to share his own opinion on what he thinks of Canelo as a person. However, instead of unleashing a verbal ploy, he decided to entertain the question.
“Your question doesn’t have any emotion on my part. I don’t even think about him, like him or dislike him.”
“He’s not a good looking girl! I have a wife; I love my wife, I think about her, not him.”
