- Poodle Trimming: There are many types of poodle haircuts, but often this involves shaving the face and legs bare and leaving a full knot on the top of the head. This cut only applies to Goldendoodles that have more of the poodle’s dominant gene and, therefore, a curly coat than the Golden Retriever gene.
- Kennel Cut: Also known as a Retriever’s cut, the coat is trimmed to a length, usually less than an inch, over the entire body, including the ears. This cut is ideal if the Goldendoodle is involved in a lot of outdoor or water activities.
How short should I cut my Goldendoodle’s hair?
Very active dogs, Jay explains, perform better with a shorter cut. He doesn’t use the term goldendoodle shave because it can scare people, but instead refers to this pruning as a reset cut.
Some people prefer to reset the Goldendoodle’s coat, or cut it very short, if the dog spends a lot of time outside, especially in the water. The short coat is easy to maintain, Jay explains, can help prevent ridges and coatings, and can make it easier for pet parents to spot ticks.
