Since stepping foot in Teofimo Lopez’s backyard at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater and mercilessly stealing Lopez’s IBF, WBO, WBA and WBC titles, George Kambosos Jr. continued to monitor the competition in search of his next opponent.

With some of the near-top lightweight names entering the ring over the past few weeks, the 28-year-old has been spotted sitting at the front row in multiple arenas. On head-to-head nights, both WBC 135-pound belt winner Devin Haney and WBA “Regular” champion Gervonta Davis defended their crowns. However, while they both won in the end, Kambosos Jr was only impressed by one of his possible future opponents.

“I think Haney had a better performance,” Kambosos Jr told a group of reporters recently.

Haney, 23, took on what many consider to be his toughest opponent to date at Joseph Diaz on December 4, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Though Diaz has his moments, Haney will continue to systematically disrupt him before arriving at a unanimous decision victory.

A day later, Kambosos Jr. was spotted at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Aussie’s production nestles comfortably into his chair as he captures the attention of the main event.

On that night, Davis, while successfully defending his minor title, was given all he could handle against Isaac Cruz. Known for his ability to finish the competition in the blink of an eye and overwhelm his opponents, Kambosos Jr was let down by the Baltimore countryman’s performance. In fact, the newly minted 135-pound title earned Cruz a standing ovation for his tenacity and tenacity.

“Nothing too exciting,” Kambosos Jr continued, referring to Davis. “That’s what it was. He won. I had it very, very close, it could have been a draw but he got through it. Much respect to Isaac Cruz. He got me excited. encouraging, he’s a fighter.”

Cruz, 23, has left a crowd of Davis supporters speechless with unrelenting pressure and unwillingness to succumb to the strength of his man. While he fought Davis mostly in even conditions, the multi-division beater has revealed the possibility that Cruz could last 12 full innings, in part due to a badly injured left hand.

For now, Kambosos Jr has yet to reveal who he will defend his lightweight titles with. And while Haney was probably in the driver’s seat, Kambosos Jr. does not rule out the possibility of a confrontation with Davis.

“That fight might be there, we’ll see.”
