Beauregard Wins Optional Claims Race at Fair Grounds

“He’s probably the best he’s ever had. Thursday before running in the Champions Day Classic, the largest (state-breed) race in Louisiana, he went out for a light gallop, routine, and then he was about to get in line and go to New Orleans,” Crisp said. “Nothing out of the ordinary; it’s not a really bad step up from what I was told.

“When he stepped off the track, he seemed a little out of place, and just in case we immediately took an X-ray. He had a basic sesamoid fracture, which is not what you want to hear. or received.”

Crisp said McCauley was “highly encouraged by the surgery even though it was more difficult and detailed than he thought when he looked at the X-ray. We thought it was an obvious crack in the base of the sesamum. .

“When he got in there, it was a small fracture, so there were two pieces. He had to clean both of those pieces as well as the joint space.”

Beauregard remains stable at Delta Downs, where he will be kept in a cage for several weeks and will then be taken away by hand. He will finish the rest of his recovery at Crisp’s Southern Legacy Thoroughbreds in Texarkana, Texas.

“(Dr. McCauley) is very optimistic. So if he’s optimistic, then I’ll be optimistic too. He told me he didn’t think there would be any questions about ‘Beau’. could move into a second career if we don’t want to race him but he believes in six or eight months he will be back as a racehorse.”

Crisp added that Beauregard went out normally and didn’t seem to mind much about his injury. He says that regardless of the outcome of the gelding recovery, he will always have a soft place to land.

“We’re not going to worry about what the eventual situation is because ‘Beau’ has a home here for the rest of his life; he doesn’t have to worry about any of that,” Crisp said. “Beau is very special to us so whatever and wherever happens we will make sure he gets the best results.”
