Forrest Hobbs | Ep. 51 Rider Magazine Insider Podcast
Our guest on Episode 51 of the Rider Magazine Insider Podcast is Forrest Hobbs, who took a “pure” approach to completing the Trans-American Trail. Hobbs lives in Denver, Colorado, and he bought a 1,200cc Yamaha Super Ténéré adventure bike, rode it 2,000 miles to Nags Head, North Carolina, rode the entire 6,200 miles of Sam Correro’s Trans-American Trail, a few thousand more miles on the way there. visit friends and family, then cycle from Port Ord, Oregon, back home. Over 73 days, he logged more than 12,000 miles. Hobbs uses only scrolling charts for navigation and doesn’t even have GPS to spare, and he camped on the trail almost every night. Hobbs is a passionate off-road racer. He didn’t start riding motorcycles until he was 30, and he competed in the Baja 1000, Red Bull Romaniacs hard enduro and Idaho City 100 ISDE qualifiers – and he finished two races each. time. Hobbs’ plan was to make the Trans-American Trail as challenging as possible to test himself, put himself down mentally and physically, and he prevailed.
