Ford recalls 18 F-150 Lightnings because of battery fire risk

“On February 4, during a standard quality check, a vehicle had a battery problem and caught fire. The root cause identified was related to battery production at the SK On plant in Georgia.”

Although 18 vehicles have come out of the Michigan plant, Ford said it “has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this recall.”

After the initial production halt was issued, Ford said it worked with battery supplier SK On to confirm the “root cause” of the problems and “implemented quality actions.” to troubleshoot. As such, it announced that F-150 Lightning production will restart on March 13.
