Ferrari Roma Spider launched – 620 hp and 760 Nm of torque convertible replaces Portofino USA

Ferrari has revealed the convertible version of the Rome. Roma Spider, appearing as a replacement for Portofino USAis the brand’s first pre-set engine softtop model since the 365 GTS/4 in 1969.

It follows its general proportions, volume and specifications coupe siblings, but the removal of the roof means that a number of details have been tweaked, among them the windshield, A-pillar and of course the rear end. Reworking the coupe’s tapered fastback roofline means modifying the rear screen to incorporate it into the soft top to allow it to fold down underneath the trunk lid when opened.

Unlike the hardtop used by Portofino, the one on the Roma Spider is crafted from a special new fabric, woven from a bespoke two-tone material drawn from a palette of four colors. Customers can also choose fabrics with iridescent red contrasting elements.

The automaker says the soft top boasts sonic comfort on par with the retractable hardtop and can be opened in just 13.5 seconds, at speeds up to 60 km/h. Its compactness also offers more boot space.

Attention has also been paid to minimizing both turbulence and wind noise in the cabin, with a 5mm weld on the new windscreen and a new, patented wind deflector – integrated into the headrest. back of the rear bench and can be deployed with a button on the center tunnel – is one of the solutions adopted to create an aerodynamic ‘bubble’ over the cockpit when the vehicle is in motion.

Due to the reworked rear end, the coupe’s electrically activated rear spoiler has been reshaped for the convertible, but following the same operating principles. Deployed automatically by an electric motor with respect to vertical and horizontal speed and acceleration (and linked to the manettino position), the unit offers three service positions – Low Traction, Medium Downforce average and high downward force.

As with the coupe, its position at low speeds is maintained until 100 km/h, at which point it switches to MD mode, providing about 30% of the maximum downforce with a drag increase of less than 1 %. At HD settings, the spoiler sits at an angle of 135 degrees and generates 95 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.

The interior presentation is also familiar, with Roma’s dual-cockpit configuration, providing separate compartments for both driver and passenger in a wraparound layout, unchanged on the convertible version of the car. Likewise, a 16-inch digital instrument cluster and a vertically oriented 8.4-inch center display are placed between the two cockpit areas. As standard, the infotainment system has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

The Stradale-style steering wheel is identical to the one in the coupe, but some minor changes have come to the HMI – the touch controls on the Spider’s steering wheel now have indentations to provide tactile zone recognition. steering wheel feel on the left and improved swiping on the right.

Power continues to be provided by the F154’s 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 in coupe form, with the factory BE version continuing to deliver 620 PS from 5,750 to 7,500 rpm and torque. 760 Nm from 3,000 to 5,750 rpm. Drive is routed to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission derived from the SF90Stradale.

Although 85 kg heavier, 1,556 kg heavier, but Spider can accelerate from 0 = 100 km / h in the same 3.4 seconds as the coupe, only slower when accelerating 0-200 km / h at 9.7 seconds (9.3 seconds for the coupe), and it also has the same top speed above 320 km/h.
