- Background: Bazinyan is a 28-year-old former amateur star – he claims to have lost only once in unpaid ratings – from Armenia who currently lives and trains in Montreal. He’s ranked by all four major sanctioning bodies (2nd by three of them) but has yet to claim a major title, although he has beaten some solid opponents. That includes decisions about the tough Marcelo Coceres last June and the slick Alantez Fox in February. Unranked Macias are not a step in the opposite direction. The 31-year-old from Mexico is tough but he has been outclassed when he faces next-level opponents, including decisive defeats to Erickson Lubin and Giovani Santillan. He’s about to come out of a one-way defeat to 168-pound prospect Pavel Silyagin last July.
