Eddie Hearn gives his thoughts on Canelo’s future: “I think Charlo is the easiest fight for him”

Canelo Alvarez smiled at the end of his 2021 boxing schedule. Not only was the pound-for-pound star successful in all three appearances against Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant, he also scored got shocking kills in front of each person.

When the final match of the year ended against Plant, Alvarez jumped to the top of the rope and shouted into the crowd in excitement. With the win, the Mexican star became the first undisputed super-middleweight champion of all time.

With the rest of the boxing world shooting at Alvarez, he patiently and carefully sifted through numerous offers. Alvarez was recently offered a one-fight deal by PBC’s Al Haymon to take on WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo. Promoter Eddie Hearn, on the other hand, offered Alvarez a two-on-one deal to take on current WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol and longtime rival Gennadiy Golovkin.

Although Alvarez has yet to make his decision, when asked who should be considered the toughest challenge, Hearn did not decline.

“I think Charlo was the easiest match for him,” Hearn said in a recent interview with BoxingInsider.com.

While Houston’s Charlo is currently moving one weight division below Alvarez, the tenacious power puncher, has repeatedly stated that he would be willing to increase the weight class to get Alvarez. The WBC middleweight titleholder was last seen in the ring in June 2021, with a decision quite widely agreed against competitor Juan Macias Montiel.

Regardless of his overall skill, however, Hearn is fully convinced that the match between Alvarez and the middleweight holder will be the easiest of all his available options.

In Golovkin’s case, the future Hall of Famer knew well what to expect from Alvarez, having shared the ring with him on many occasions.

Although the Kazakh star believes he should have been awarded a decisive unanimous win over Alvarez in 2017, he was forced to settle for a decisive split. A year later, the two will do it again. This time, while Golovkin firmly expressed his dissatisfaction with the final scorecards, he suffered the first defeat of his career. The now 40-year-old has returned to his winning streak, scoring three wins in a row, including a seventh round win over Kamil Szeremeta.

While Bivol may be considered the lesser known member of the group, Hearn has always viewed the light heavyweight as a legitimate threat to Alvarez. After an underwhelming 2020 in which Bivol played nothing, he is reeling from consecutive wins over Craig Richards and Umar Salamov.

Although Hearn insists that both Bivol and Golovkin are tougher matches, he has openly admitted that Charlo is a helluva fighter in his own right.

“I see the battle with Golovkin as a much more brutal fight than with Charlo. I found the fight with Bivol to be a much more technical fight than Charlo but Charlo is also a great fighter. ”
