While there are many benefits to using two card slots in one camera, the main reason most photographers favor this is to protect data in the event that one card fails. To be fair, modern memory cards are much more reliable than the ones from a decade or two ago, and you can safely take pictures with a card slot most of the time. However, no card is completely safe, and if you’re shooting something you won’t get a second chance at, such as a wedding, a second card slot is never a bad idea. .
