DJI Announces Mini 4 Pro Drone

DJI has announced its “ultimate mini camera drone”—the Mini 4 Pro. Like its predecessor, the Mini 4 Pro boasts a 48-megapixel Type 1/1.3-inch CMOS image sensor and weighs in at “under 249g” (8.8oz)—meaning you won’t have the hassle of having to register the device with the authorities (like the FAA in the US) as you do with 250g-plus drones.

The sensor pairs with a new image-processing platform and a 24mm-equivalent f/1.7 lens with an 82.1° field of view. In addition to shooting 48MP RAW images, the Mini 4 Pro can capture up to 4K/60p HDR video as well as slow-motion 4K footage at up to 100fps. The new drone can record 10-bit D-Log M video, which DJI says results in “natural colors” and “true-to-life” brightness.

Promising to be even easier to fly, the Mini 4 Pro features omnidirectional obstacle sensing, detecting obstructions from all directions using multiple wide-angle and downward vision sensors. There’s also an Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) on board, which enables automatic braking and obstacle bypass.

Like its predecessor, the Mini 4 Pro can fly for up to 34 minutes, but there’s an optional battery—the Intelligent Battery Plus—which increases flight time to around 45 minutes; that’s two minutes shorter than its predecessor using the same battery. Video transmission has been improved, however, with the new O4 technology delivering smooth 1080/60p video—double the frame rate of the O3 system in the Mini 3 Pro.

Available now, the DJI Mini 4 Pro costs $760 and includes the drone, the RC-N2 Remote Controller, the Mini 4 Intelligent Flight Battery, and various accesories.
