Most photographers who have been in the industry for a while have a horror story or two. I’ve heard a lot from others and have had one myself, although not the worst. During my first year as a professional photographer, I was on a very low budget, as you can imagine. I’ve been offered several days a week for the whole summer, and I’m not about to turn it down. However, it required me to purchase a specific lens and a strong illuminator.
The reason for this is that a lot of the stuff I’m shooting is underground and has very dim or no light at all. So capturing these spaces is difficult. The first days of work were outdoors, but my first day indoors was for basement photography and so I brought my new flash. I stepped to the top of the stone stairs that led down to the pitch-black basement and as I looked down, my lightning (which I had not been well guarded against) flashed and struck each (again, stone) step all the way to the bottom.
