Derek Jeter responds to Carlos Correa’s comment: ‘I didn’t think much of it’
Derek Jeter was asked Friday about Carlos Correa’s recent comments about Jeter’s batting.
Correa apparently hit out at Jeter during an appearance this month on the “Me Gustan Los Deportes” podcast, with the free agent succinctly stating (translated from Spanish) “Derek Jeter doesn’t deserve anyone.” any Golden Gloves he’s won.” Jeter told The Miami Herald’s Craig Mish he knew Correa said something but “didn’t think much of it.”

“It doesn’t even guarantee a response. I mean, I could go in different directions about it,” a beaming Jeter told Mish.

Correa, who won his first Golden Glove in 2021, made his comments on a podcast with former MLB quarterback Carlos Baerga. He referenced Jeter’s career minus a total of 162 defenses saved when discussing the award. Correa has led the MLB this year with 20 DRS (revised from 21 DRS) and has not posted a negative number in the category since debuting in majors in 2015.

Correa is a free agent who can reportedly look forward to a $300 million deal with his next club. According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Correa was chatting with the Yankees, but he was spotted eating a late breakfast with Tigers manager AJ Hinch on Thursday in Houston, where Hinch spends the off-season. Hinch managed Correa with the Astros from 2015-19.
