Deontay Wilder provides an update on his Usyk Joshua 2 return and prediction
With the Oleksandr Usyk-Anthony Joshua rematch officially announced for August 20 in Saudi Arabia predict the war will start thick and fast.
A former WBC champion and a man who has long been linked to the fight against Joshua has had his say. Deontay Wilder was asked to be selected by Elie Seckbach in a quick chat he had with ‘The Bronze Bomber,’ who happened to be on the phone with trainer Malik Scott at the time. Wilder replied:
“I’m going with Usyk again.”
“I think a lot of people are like that. That’s boxing at the end of the day we’ll see. My pick is Usyk. ”
The 32-year-old player is out of the ring since his defeat to Tyson Fury in their three part fight October last year. Given the serious nature of the competition and his inability to beat the WBC champion in three attempts, many wondered if the Alabama fighter would ever return to the ring. At a recent event last month in his hometown where he was presented with a life-size statue, Wilder hinted he would fight again.
“I can’t stop right now. I must continue my journey. I can’t end it like this”.
Seckbach asked Wilder if he would return:
“I may come back, I may not.”
“I’m having a great time off the court. You have to understand that I made more money from the ring than in it and I already have a statue! ”
